Pet Wellness Services
Wellness care is different for each pet at each stage of their life. At Bogue Animal Hospital, we are not only committed to age-appropriate health care; we are also determined to meet each pet’s individual needs. There is no one-size-fits-all veterinary care here! As an AAHA-accredited animal hospital, we offer life stage wellness services to accommodate the needs of pets of all ages.
Puppies and Kittens
Puppies and kittens are a joy to bring home, but they need some specialized care early in their years in order to get them started on the right paw. Initial physical exams are very important because they help us establish the baseline of health for the pet, educate owners on the care each pet needs, and begin important preventive treatments such as their:
- Vaccine boosters
- Flea and tick prevention
We will also educate you on nutrition, training, and any other concerns specific to a puppy or kitten.
Adult Dogs and Cats
During your pet’s adult years, comprehensive, annual wellness exams are essential. Because pets age 5-9 times faster than humans, it’s important for them to be examined regularly to establish a baseline of health. Knowing this allows us to identify changes in their health as they age and recognize potential health problems before they develop into something serious. Since pets can’t talk, and they’re experts at hiding their weaknesses, it takes some careful searching sometimes to identify potential problems. That’s where we come in!
Every exam includes a conversation about any changes you may have observed in behavior or comfort level. We’ll tailor our examination around troubleshooting any issues you may have observed. We’ll conduct a complete nose-to-tail check over the body, looking for lumps and bumps, lesions, and other abnormalities. If necessary, we can recommend treatment or additional diagnostics.
Senior pets have unique needs from pets of any age group, and we care for them with the most tender and individualized treatment. Veterinary care at Bogue Animal Hospital is for life, so by the time your pet reaches their golden years, our team has come to know them very well. We begin treating most pets as seniors around the age of 7, providing senior-specific examinations and changes in wellness protocol. We recommend bi-annual visits for older pets to accommodate any age-related conditions.
It’s exciting for us to provide veterinary care to senior pets in this age of medical advancement. Pets are living longer than ever and enjoying greater comfort than at any other time. We have more tools than ever to treat and minimize symptoms of even the toughest age-related illnesses, including:
- Kidney failure
- Cognitive Dysfunction
We manage each senior pet’s health by checking for conditions they may be predisposed to, based on their breed or their early indications, and we perform more extensive diagnostic tests on seniors. While vaccines are still important, wellness checks are even more critical for senior pets. These help us to monitor their condition, treat their symptoms, and ensure that your pet leads a happy and comfortable life. Aging isn’t a disease; we treat senior pets with kindness and respect.
